Workforce Challenge

When Anand Patel began looking for a site for Metroll - a metal manufacturing company that makes metal roofing, siding and building kits - he thought there was no easy way through the site selection and permit process. The company was working on a tight budget to become fully operational within the year.

“I had grown up hearing that California is the hardest place to do business because of all the hurdles and loopholes you have to go through to set up a business,” Patel said.

Workforce Solution

Mr. Patel found expert support from the Economic Development Department and the Workforce Investment Board of San Bernardino County.

The San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board funds a team of forward-thinking business service representatives who work with business owners like Patel to identify their workforce needs, discover job openings, help with hiring, and negotiate subsidized training contracts. The WIB's business service representatives posted Metroll’s job openings on its website and helped identify qualified candidates. The County also assisted Patel in obtaining the necessary approvals and permits to get Metroll up and running.

Outcomes & Benefits

Metroll recently closed escrow on a facility in Fontana, CA. Patel will have an on-going relationship with the County as Metroll plans to hire ten new employees within the next few months and then train those workers to operate the machinery that will make roofing, siding and other structural profiles.

“Here in San Bernardino County, I have people I can call for help,” Patel said. “They have not only been very knowledgeable, but also reliable and responsive.”
